Navigating Decision-Making Under Pressure
By Sadé Savings
As professionals and business leaders, we wear many hats, and often, the weight of decision-making rests solely on our shoulders. From strategy and hiring to cash flow and operations, these decisions come quickly and under pressure.
But here's a gentle truth: it's not the market that slows us down — it's often our own hesitation, overthinking, and decision fatigue.
So, how can we make clearer, faster, and more confident choices in our work? Here are a few tools I've shared during my masterclass.
The 3-Level Decision Framework
- — Level 1 — Fast Decisions: For low-risk choices, decide quickly and move forward.
- — Level 2 — Considered Decisions: For moderate impacts, take time to think it through, but set a time limit.
- — Level 3 — Strategic Decisions: For high-impact choices, slow down, seek input, and be intentional.
The 70% Rule
Certainty is often a luxury we can't afford. If you have 70% of the information, it's time to take action. Waiting too long can lead to missed opportunities.
Separating Facts from Pressure
A helpful question to ask in the moment: "What are the facts, and what am I making this mean?" This simple shift can create the space needed for better decisions.
The Next Best Move
Instead of seeking the perfect solution, ask yourself: "What's the next best move?" This approach encourages momentum and clarity in the midst of complexity.
When we apply these tools consistently, we can transform how our businesses operate — leading to faster execution, reduced stress, and more consistent growth. As business owners, we don't just need to work harder. We need to decide with intention and clarity.
